About Us

Low Nest Farm

While Low Nest has been welcoming visitors to stay for over a century, the farm has been here for far longer. With a presence evidenced on 1700s maps and building architecture dating back to the 1600s.

We’re a small farm a mile outside of Keswick, close enough to walk in for a pint, but far enough to avoid the crowds and feel like we’re far from anybody else! The lifeline of the lakes, the A591 crosses just past the farm making it a perfect spot to get to anywhere in the lakes within an hour of spectacular driving, or to even take the bus along a route voted the best bus route in the UK.

In 2019 we upturned everything and moved from the Isle of Wight all the way up to the fells of Cumbria and have never looked back. Both Alasdair and Heather are outdoors people having met working on boats and regularly coming up to visit Alasdair’s family in the South Lakes (where he was brought up) for an adventure or two in the mountains and lakes. Freya came with us in tow, but then in 2020 we welcome Sophie to the family and to Low Nest.

We’re nearly always around the farm doing some odd job or other, so do feel free to stop for chat. Freya and Sophie are always happy to take any kids out for an adventure.
