Caffle House Tearoom, Watendlath
Go over the picture perfect Ashness Bridge, stop off and take in the most incredible scenery from Suprise View, and keep going. At the end of the single track lane is one of the Lake Districts best kept secrets, Watendlath. this traditional white washed lakeland farm is complete with an equally traditional tea room. Don’t expect a sourdough Greek pitta filled with locally cured venison. This is a good old fashioned tea room, which may or may not be open and may or may not have soup. But it does have plenty of tea, coffee, cakes and the ocassional soup. If you have jsut an hour to spare one afternoon in the summer months, then we can’t recommend a drive to Watendlath enough.
Mathildes, Grasmere
Grasmere itself is a beautiful traditional lake district village surrounded by spectacular mountains. So a trip here is highly recommended, as is a trip to Mathildes. It’s not jsut the menu filled with a Scandi influence, so is the wooden cafe extension. The food is delicious and very local. A favourite of ours if we’re heading south of Dunmail Raise.
Sykes Farm, Buttermere
A walk round Buttermere is one of the quentesential days out in the Lakes. But the 2-3 hour walk will work up a thirst and hunger so we can’t recommend heading to Syke Farm tea room enough. Delicious food and cakes are all made fresh on site. If you’re good and eat all your lunch then treat yourself to an ice cream, which is not just made on site, but is also made from the milk of their cows! We recommend parking at Gatesgarth after passing honister and walking into Buttermere from there.
Grange Cafe, Derwentwater
If you fancy a grander challenge than walking round Buttermere, then how about Derwentwater. The 10 mile route will work up a thirst and appetite, as such we recommend a stop at Grange cafe half way round. A beautiful cafe, with many an international fan. Good food and grand tea, what more could you want.
Apple Pie Bakery & Cafe, Ambleside
A stop off in Ambleside isn’t complete with a trip to the Apple Pie Bakery & Cafe. After filling up at the delicious cafe make sure you take a slice of the apple pie home with you.
Granny Downbekins, Pooley Bridge
Heading to Ullswater? We recommend stopping off at Pooley Bridge to explore the area, but while you’re there Granny Downbekins is a great little eatery for a quick cup of tea, cake or a whole lunch.
Jetty Museum, Windermere
This architecture award winning museum couldn’t be a better position for a cup of tea, cake or lunch with views down the length of Windermere. We also fully recommend the really informative museum.
